If you are anything like me, then you love to know what people keep in their everyday bag! As a New Yorker, I often joke that I carry my entire life with me because when you are out and about in the city, you never know where you’ll end up or what you’ll need.
Here are some my holy grail items, the must-haves, and the products I find myself reaching for the most throughout my day. You can see a few of them above, however, I fit a lot in my bag. You never know what you’ll need when you’re out and about!
I of course keep my stationery must-haves from Effie’s Paper in my tote. Typically I have a notebook and pen so that I’m ready to write down my thoughts or take meeting notes. Sidenote, have y’all started to use rollerball pens more yet? Game changer. I also try to keep my planner handy so that I can organize my chaos everyday. These planners are available for preorder now, so don’t walk – run to get yours now!
Of course, I always keep my favorite makeup products, especially chapstick and lipstick, on hand! It gets chilly in New York and as someone who’s always trying to create content, I don’t want chapped lips. Same with lotion because hydrated skin is happy skin. Especially when the weather begins to change! Everyday is something new in the city.
Technology and Gadgets
As a small business owner, I use my tech often. Between emails, meetings, blog posts, website updates, creating/editing content, and more it’s safe to say I get more than enough screen time. I typically have my laptop, headphones, a tripod, phone, and maybe my iPad to name a few items. It’s nice to work from coffee shops or take a walk during the day so I take my work with me a lot of the time.
My Tripod Love Affair
I almost never leave home without a tripod. Honestly, you just never know when you might stumble upon an IG-worthy spot! And since, I usually have a bit of Effie’s Paper with me, it’s just sort of a no-brainer. My friends and family have become accustomed to me stealthily sneaking off to take a few photos before joining in on whatever’s going on.
But, I also find myself walking down the street and spy a great location, pull out my tripod, and wham-bam before you know it I’ve had a whole photo shoot. I have 3 different tripods. My favorite is the Atumtek Selfie Stick Tripod because it’s small and it fits in some of my smaller purses. My general go-to at Effie’s Paper events and solo photoshoots at home is a simple, but sturdy ring light tripod.
And then, my friend Sarah, of Jetset Sarah, a Caribbean travel expert who travels all over the world and gets paid to write about her trips, recently hipped me to the Tenikle. There’s no wrong choice here – they all serve a purpose and they’re all under $50. Want to learn more about these impromtu shoots? Check out my recent Instagram post about it!
I never leave home without a scarf or pretty barrette. Those who get it, get it. You never know when you’ll want to add a pop of color to your bag (one of my fave ways to use a twilly or scarf – see what I mean here). Or need a quick neckerchief for your outfit.
Perhaps you need to use it as a headband. All times when a scarf is very much needed. Plus a fabulous barrette automatically elevates any look. It’s a known fact, one that I of course love.
How Does It Stay Organized?
My favorite way to organize all of these bits and bobbles? Makeup bags! They allow me to sort and organize everything within my tote so that it’s easy to find.
I have bags for all of my different categories from makeup to technology. So when I need to grab something I know where to look. I try my best to stay organized, although life happens, but it’s the thought that counts. Right?
