I used to have a blog called Possess Your STYLE where I talked about all things stylish … you know everything from the latest trends and my thoughts on them, to how to travel in style and life in general. If you’re an old friend, sit down and pour yourself a glass of wine and dive in. If you’re a new friend, girl we’re gonna have a good time.
I grew up surrounded by a family of most stylish ladies. I couldn’t wait to grow up and dress the way they did. I was excited to have standing appointments to get my hair, nails and eyebrows done – you know the works! They all made it look so easy. No one told me being grown was an expensive juggling act. Lordy, I had no idea that all of that “maintenance” could be a major time suck, not to mention money pit! Well, here I am now … good and grown and doing my part to carry on the family tradition. So while I worship at the alter of the beauty gods and have become a devotee of weekly manicures and monthly lash sessions (they’re just sooo fun!) … I’m not so caught up in the rigors of the fashion world.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to dress up and look nice. In fact, you might mistake me for one of those women spends all of her time shopping. Nothing could be further from the truth. I shop, who doesn’t? And with every store imaginable at your fingertips, how can one not shop? BUT, I am deliberate in my shopping.
First and foremost, I shop in my closet. I learned a valuable lesson years ago – only buy things that make your heart leap. Why? So that when you pull an item out from the back of your closet that you completely forgot you had, you can fall in love all over again. Second, figure out what looks good on you. Not everyone looks good in everything. #TRUTH. And lastly, but not least, fashion can be bought, but I truly believe that style one must innately possess.
Stylishly yours, Kalyn
