Travel Tips I Live By

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town, South Africa is simply stunning.

Looking to make your next travel adventure stylish and stress-free? Look no further! It’s no secret that I travel a lot, for both fun and work. It’s safe to say that I have a few travel tips and tricks up my sleeve when it’s time to figure out the logistics. I’ve even shared some packing tips before, you can read those here.

My Travel Tips and Tricks

Whether you’re jet-setting for business or pleasure, having the right travel tips can make all the difference. Here are some chic and practical suggestions to elevate your travel game:

Pack Smart

I never leave home without a few Effie’s Paper items!

Start by making a packing list to ensure you have everything you need without overpacking. I usually pack a day or two before I leave. And before I start jotting down my packing list, I check the weather and think about what I’m going to be doing and what kinds of clothes and shoes I’ll need. Opt for versatile clothing pieces that can be mixed and matched to create multiple outfits. Lately, I’ve become a big fan of “rolling” my clothes instead of folding them to maximize luggage space.

This is my favorite bag for quick weekend trips or if I happen to somehow find myself flying on Spirit Airlines. This bag fits underneath the seat in front of you and if packed properly can work for a 4 day trip!

I know lots of people use packing cubes, my husband included, to keep their belongings neatly organized in your suitcase. I haven’t gone down that path yet, but I have a few big trips coming up and I’ve got my eyes on this set. It’s one of thoe travel tips I’m going to try!

Stay Organized

My Christian Dior Bobby Bag is great for travel. And I never thought I’d be a backpack girl, but here we are!

Conventional wisdom says you should invest in a stylish travel organizer or pouch to keep your essentials like passport, tickets, and travel documents safe and easily accessible. Believe it or not, although I’m on a plane at least once a month, I haven’t found “THE” organizer. For the past few years, I’ve been using my Prada backpack (it has a bunch of pockets and interior compartments) or my Dior Bobby Bag.

But, it’s no secret that I love my EP pouches; they are a must when traveling! They make it easy to know what’s where throughout the trip in my carry-on tote or backpack.

My backpack has a slot on the back that means I can easily loop it over the handles of my roller bag.

Dress Comfortably

While it’s tempting to prioritize style over comfort, choose clothing and footwear that allow you to move freely and comfortably, especially for long flights or road trips. Opt for breathable fabrics and supportive shoes to keep you feeling fresh throughout your journey.

On a recent flight to Cape Town, I tried out an Air Essentials set by Spanx. I was skeptical, but the online reviews were glowing. Definitely, one of my better purchases. I got the wide leg pants, short sleeved top and the zip sweatshirt. I wanted to be stylish yet comfortable. Spanx delivered on all fronts. This was money well spent. We flew from JFK to Istanbul, had an 8 hour layover in Istanbul and then a 14 hour flight to Cape Town. It felt like I had on a comfortable pair of PJs. I will definitely be investing in a few more Air Essentials pieces.

I am obsessed with this set – I just wish it had pockets. But, that said, I will likely purchase a few more pieces. Totally perfect for international travel.

Stay Connected

Make sure you have all the necessary tech accessories like chargers, adapters, and portable power banks to keep your devices charged and connected while on the go. Consider investing in a stylish travel-friendly phone case with built-in card slots for added convenience. I usually travel with this tech organizer to keep track of power cords and chargers. AND, I recently discovered this credit card size portable charger that I can’t say enough good things about. It comes in silver, rose gold and black. Get yours here.

What I love is that you can stuff her and then zip her up and throw her in your tote!

Plan Ahead

Research your destination in advance to familiarize yourself with local customs, transportation options, and attractions. My favorite travel tips is to use The LUXE City Guides. I discovered them while traveling in Vietnam years ago. They’re written by Ex Pats who happen to be abroad in particular cities. The LUXE City Guides allow you to experience the city like someone who lives there – they help you avoid the tourist traps.

I like to hit the ground running, so I create an itinerary ahead of time to make sure I don’t miss out on must-see sights and experiences. But, my itinerary is always flexible because the best travel memories are those spontaneous adventures that happen randomly. You know, like when you wander down an alley in Rome and find the best pasta you’ve ever had.

Travel in Style

Bad hair days when traveling are easily fixed with a pretty versatile scarf. Shop mine here.

The easiest way to pull your outfits together and be stylish day or night is with accessories. Elevate your travel experience by adding some stylish accessories to your ensemble, such as a chic scarf, a fun jacket, statement sunglasses or a trendy hat. Don’t forget to pack a versatile jacket or coat that can easily transition from day to night and provide added warmth when needed.

I bought this jacket in Cape Town. I was sold on the rhinestone cheetah. But what makes it even more special is that it’s reversible!

Here’s a major travel tip – a jean jacket is not necessarily the versatile jacket you think it is. Step out of your box and consider a blazer or cardigan instead. Nothing screams “American tourist” more than a jean jacket.

Stay Hydrated and Nourished

Now that most airports have water bottle filling stations, I try to bring my own mug with me. It’s sustainable and I have something pretty to drink out of!

Traveling can be dehydrating, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout your journey. If I have room in my carry-on, I pack a travel mug to insure I get the recommended 88 ounces of water a day. Take it from someone who’s hangry levels can be off the charts, packing healthy snacks like nuts, fruits, and protein bars to keep hunger at bay and maintain your energy levels. Happy Travels!

By following these travel tips, you can ensure a stylish and enjoyable travel experience from start to finish.

Stylishly Yours,
