This Month’s Cocktail – Smoked Guava Bourbon Smash!

Welcome to the first installation of a new monthly post – this month’s cocktail! If you’ve been here for a minute or if you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’m a bourbon girl. I’ve been a fan of bourbon for a long time, long before bourbon took the cocktail world by storm. So when the folks at Aged & Charred reached out to me about trying their cocktail smoker kit, I couldn’t resist. Et voilà, this month’s cocktail – Smoked Guava Bourbon Smash!

The Aged & Charred Cocktail Smoker Kit

The Inspiration

We took the kit with us to Fort Myers for a weekend trip to visit my parents. They’re always up for a good cocktail; we thought it would be fun to share the experience with them. But first, we had to come up with a fun cocktail for this month’s cocktail. My husband and I both love a good bourbon smash. Since we’re spending time in Florida, we decided to put a tropical spin on the traditional by adding guava juice and smoke. Our Smoked Guava Bourbon Smash was delish!

How To Use The Aged & Charred Cocktail Smoker Kit

It’s very easy to use the Aged & Charred Cocktail Smoker Kit. The kit comes with wood chips, butane, an oak cocktail smoker top and a culinary torch.

This is the Aged & Charred oak smoker top.

You add the smoke into your cocktail after you make it (this month’s cocktail recipe is below). The smoker top is tapered and designed to fit a variety of cocktail glasses. You simply put the bottom of the smoker top (the part that holds the wood chips) on top of your glass, add the wood chips, fill the torch with butane and hold the torch over the wood chips.

The butane torch makes it very easy to add smoke to your cocktail.

It takes a good 2 to 3 minutes to burn the wood chips and get the smoke going. Then put the lid of the smoker top on to insure you infuse the smoke into your cocktail. I made 4 different cocktails and I learned that the longer you leave the smoker top on, the smokier your cocktail will be. Ideally, you want to leave the smoker top on for another 2 to 3 minutes.

Ingredients

If you like bourbon and exotic fruits like guava, give this cocktail a try. It’s super easy to make. You need:

Steps

If you’re going to rim your glasses, fill a shallow bowl with water and dip your glasses into the water. Pour 1/8 cup Tajin onto a plate and then swirl your glasses in the Tajin to rim the glasses.

Rim your glasses with Tajin.
  1. Add ice to your shaker.
  2. Add the bourbon, guava juice, Cointreau and lime juice to the shaker.
  3. Shake vigorously and pour into your rimmed glass
  4. Smoke the cocktail using the Aged & Charred Cocktail Smoker Kit as detailed above.

And as a final step, peel a bit of lime to make your garnish.
