My Summer Cocktail: The Gibson

Ya’ll know I’m a bourbon girl at heart. But, every now and then I do a little somethin-somethin with Gin. This Summer, I’m all about The Gibson! I mean how delicious does it look?

How It Started

Aubrie Salzman, my right hand and good friend, came to Miami in May to help me with a project that we’re keeping under wraps for now. Aubrie is a gin drinker. In particular, she likes a Gimlet. A Gimlet is a gin martini or cocktail made of gin and lime cordial. A 1928 description of the drink was: gin, and a spot of lime. To be hospitable, I drank gin with her. And while looking for a new twist on a gin cocktail, I stumbled upon this very old one – The Gibson.

Some people believe that The Gibson was first, or at least officially created at San Francisco’s Bohemian Club in 1898, where it was named after one of two patrons, businessman Walter DK Gibson or illustrator Charles Dana Gibson (the guy know for the Gibson Girl drawings). It’s so perfect for Summer and it’s super easy to make which I love!

Ingredients

  • 2.5 oz dry gin – I prefer Tanquary Ten
  • A splash of dry vermouth
  • A splash of pickled onion juice (this is my addition)
  • 3 small pickled onions on a pretty toothpick
Such an easy and simple cocktail to make.

Instructions

  1. Stir down all ingredients with ice in a mixing glass until very cold (or shake in a cocktail shaker).
  2. Strain into a chilled Martini glass.
  3. Garnish with pickled onions. (optional)

And that’s it. Super simple. Super refreshing and super boozy! Check out some other recipes I love like the Maple Bourbon Smash or the Scorpio Spritz. Cheers to the sunshine!

Stylishly Yours,
