Headbands! Everything that goes around comes around. I was the queen of headbands in junior high, or as my mom so aptly called them headache bands. It was during my Preppy Handbook phase when anything from the Pappagallo store (I wonder if those stores are still open … they were the bastion of ALL THINGS preppy!) made my heart leap.
But, to be honest those headbands were made of hard plastic and were covered with grosgrain ribbon. And as cute as they were, my mom was right … they squeezed my head and gave me a headache. Gone are the days of those metal headbands with teeth!
Fast forward many years later and I am again fueling my headband obsession. I started slowly … At first, I wore silk scarves, bandanas and twillies as headbands.

BUT, I spied these cute Gucci inspired headbands online and decided to dip my toe in.

Then ya’ll!! I was scrolling the ‘gram and these jeweled headbands caught my eye. I don’t think my life will ever be the same. It’s like a combination of all of my favorite things – turbans, bright colors and amazing over-the-top beading! I’m smitten. These beauties are from Nam Josh, the sister company of a high end sari designer in India. Rather than throw out their leftover sari scraps, they started making headbands from these bits and bobs of material. How gorge are they??

When I saw this hot pink headband from Nam Josh, it was like a siren call. I HAD to have it. A whimsical purchase? YES. A purchase I’m glad I made? ABSOLUTELY. It’s so funny how little things can bring you joy. I’m all about creating things and buying things that make my heart leap!

I admit it, I’m obsessed with them! And you know I consider it my personal responsibility to share a good thing when I find it.
How to Style Headbands
I wear my hair pulled back most of the time. Call me lazy if you will, but I don’t have the time or patience to do my hair regularly. Or, you could call it protective styling. In any case, as une femme d’age certain, some days wearing my hair pulled back looks chic and other days shows that I didn’t get enough sleep. In an effort to defy gravity (hello Idina Mendel!) or at a minimum, to add a little je ne sais quois to my everyday ‘do, I started wearing scarves and headbands (knotted headbands, turban headbands . I’ve got all sorts – the ones you see pictured in this post, the ones I wear to the gym and the ones that are a little less fancy. I think I’m going to have to do another post ya’ll!
Stylishly yours, Kalyn
