Day In The Life Of A Congressional Candidate
I recently flew home to Detroit, Michigan to follow and participate in a day in my friend Portia Roberson’s life! She is running for Congress in the 13th District. So here’s a look into her daily life and everything she does while campaigning.

Portia started her day off bright and early with calls. First, she met with her campaign finance directors and some donors to discuss the financial aspects of the campaign. Then she hopped on another call with her Campaign Manager and Media Consultant. This call was to prep her for any media calls she had throughout the day.

Now that she’s been prepped and consulted with everyone throughout the morning, it’s time to get social! Portia headed to Replay Cafe. Where she’ll be doing a podcast interview to discuss her platform, why she’s running, and more. Check out the interview here.

Expect the unexpected, it’s now 4 pm and she has an unscheduled interview to take care of. While unscheduled interviews are excellent sources of publicity when running for Congress. So this one is slotted into her busy schedule.

Portia then had a fundraiser at 5:30 pm to meet with her supporters and some donors to socialize and say hello. It’s great seeing her interact with everyone throughout the day.

Portia also does nightly live streams on Facebook to stay in touch with her supporters and community. She takes being social and involved to a new level. Her day is packed from the morning through the evening from prep, to interviews, fundraisers, live streams, and so on.
High School BFFs
In case you didn’t know Portia and I have been best friends since high school. So I had to spend a day campaigning with her and supporting her while she runs for Congress!

I mean how fabulous are those images of us? Remember the primary is quickly approaching and your voice needs to be heard! Take the time on August 2, 2022, and make sure to vote.
Portia’s campaign is all about people, passion, and purpose. If you want to support her campaign monetarily you can do so here.

Kalyn – delighted to know about Ms. Roberson’s campaign. I will link her various websites and Facebook pages to my own, and send out notices to my Sister and to our AA-oriented Friends who will be interested in following her coming trajectory. Kalyn. I don’t know if you ever knew that I managed the technical side of the Twitter piece of President Obama’s New York Midtown East second Presidential campaign which was just gearing up when I retired from JD in 2011. I literally stumbled into the role at a campaign organizational meeting, idiot that I was. I have no idea how I ever survived it. It was 16 hour days for 8 straight months. I’ve never been so happy in my life as when the election was called. This heathen fell to his knees and cried “Thank You Jesus, Thank You Jesus!!!!” LOLOL The only time I ever got to meet the President was at a speaking engagement at NYU during his first campaign. He was barely known. My Sister lived in Chicago at the time, and he was her State Senator. She kept telling me, “You’ve gotta hear this man!!!” How I would LOVE to be hearing him now!! We’ve never needed his voice like we need it now!
Elliot – You have been such a wonderful friend to me. I truly appreciate you. And miss you dearly. I hope you and yours are well. Xo
