There’s so much heaviness going on in the world at the moment . . . I wanted to share some JOY with you today. Sometimes the universe slides you love notes in the form of people. This is my friend, Mia Fleming, joy-giver, cheerleader, and champion of goodness for living the good life. I met Mia 6 or 7 years ago at a pop-up event. The Effie’s Paper Team was vending at a popular Holiday Pop-Up in NYC and Mia stopped by towards the end of the day to introduce herself.
How It Started
Pop-up events are FUN, but by the end of the day, I am toast. You can read all about our holiday pop-up preparation here and how to perfect the pop-up here. Mia’s smile, cheerful disposition, and overall vibe immediately changed my energy. I don’t remember much about that day, but what I do remember is that she offered to help us in the future with whatever we might need. Who does that? Mia does.
Our conversation was such a breath of fresh air that I wasn’t quite sure how to react. But, her enthusiasm was infectious and I decided to go with my gut. As kind as her offer was, it didn’t occur to me that it was anything other than just idle chit-chat. Little did I know, I’d be reaching out to her a few months later in dire straights.
Fast forward 3 months and we’d had a few phone conversations and learned we had a ton in common (we’re members of the same sorority, and our husbands both went to the University of Oklahoma) and our “random” meeting was turning into a real friendship.
A Little Bit About Mia
By way of background, Mia is an on-air talent who does lifestyle segments in her home state of Oklahoma, Texas, and on occasion nationally. Fast forward a few months and the next thing I knew, Mia had featured Effie’s Paper in not 1, but 3 different morning news segments and had convinced a few stores in Tulsa to start carrying our products… I know, right?!?!?
A Dear Friend
And then in June 2018, I found myself in a bind as we were headed to Essence Festival and I needed an energetic salesperson to help in our booth … Mia to the rescue! Ya’ll, she was AWESOME. It was like the retail gods knew I needed a fairy godsister to help make the weekend a success. In a short period of time, Mia has become a dear friend, our husbands have bonded and she’s truly like a sister from another mister. She challenges me to stay positive in the wild wild west of the online world and I try to do the same for her.
